Frequently asked Questions

Can the Yonkers Marathon be used to qualify for the Boston Marathon?
Yes.

Is there a time limit for the Yonkers Marathon and Half Marathon?
Yes. There is a 5 1/2 hour time limit. Both races start at 8:00 a.m., and the course will close at 1:30 p.m. Registrants must be capable of completing the full distance within the event time requirement of 5 1/2 hours (approximately a 13:00-minute per mile pace). Participants traveling slower than a 13:00-minute per mile pace are not guaranteed Aid Station and Medical support once the 5 1/2 hour time limit has been reached. Participants still out on the course will be asked to move onto the sidewalk as police and course marshal support will end. Participant chip or time interest greater than 5 hours will not be listed in the official results.

Are there any age limits to enter the race?
Yes, you must be at least 13 years of age (on race day) to register for the Yonkers Half Marathon and at least 16 years of age (on race day) to register for the marathon.

Are there Pace Teams?
Yes, the Yonkers Pace Team will be available in the marathon to help you achieve a PR, qualify for the Boston Marathon or other races, finish your first marathon, or just help you enjoy your run.

Are results and awards determined by gun or chip time?
Awards are determined by gun time as is required by USATF Rule 245. Your net time (chip time) will be posted in the results along with your gun time.

Are there hotels within walking distance of the finish line?
Yes. The HYATT PLACE NEW YORK/YONKERS is within walking distance of the finish line and the buses to the start. A special rate is available for race participants and families. Check out the “Lodging” section of the website for more information.

Is there an expo?
Yes. The expo takes place on Saturday, October 22, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Yonkers Van Der Donck Park in downtown Yonkers. Packet pickup will also be held at the expo. Our exhibitors will include race vendors, running and health-related organizations, running clubs and other organizations of interest to our participants.

Is there day-of-race packet-pick up?
No. All race packets must be picked up on Friday October 21 and Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Yonkers Library from 1pm to 4 pm. You may have someone else pick up your packet for you as long as they have a copy of your photo ID and a note giving permission for another individual to pick up your packet.

Will the races that I can register for the race?
All main races will not sell out pre-race. Entry will be no wait list.

Can I wear headphones?
The use of headphones during the race is strongly discouraged. The course is partially open to traffic, bikes, pedestrians, residents, and, of course, vehicles, making it important that each runner is able to hear all forms of race and emergency communications.

What type of hydration and nutrition support will be available on the course?
Water and sportdrinks as well as some snacks/candy will be distributed at two locations on the marathon course.

What if I need to drop out of the event?
A sag vehicle will be active to pick up any participants who cannot finish. If you need to drop out, notify a race medical volunteer or visible staff member for transport. If you’re unable to walk to half a mile to reach pick up, remain at the location and notify support by phone if possible. Medical vehicles and trained staff will patrol the course.

Is there medical help available on the course?
Yes. Medically-trained bikers will patrol the course and will be able to triage any medical needs. There will be EMTs stationed along the course and an ambulance following the race. There are marathon radio operators at every water stop who can relay messages to the finish area and all water stop captains, race medical bicyclists and road marshals have cell phones available to call 911 if a medical emergency occurs.

Are there portable toilets on the course?
Yes. There is a portable toilet at 4 water stop sites after mile 4 of the marathon.

Is there a place for me to check extra clothing or baggage?
Yes. Participants can check a bag at the start of each race, which will be transported to the finish area. If you plan to check a bag, a clear plastic bag must be used. Any other type of bag or backpacks will not be accepted. No exceptions. Please make sure that your bib number, name and a contact number is visible on the bag. Do not check bags containing valuables or breakable items. The race is not responsible for loss or damage.

Can I run with a running stroller, skates or my dog?
No.

Can I get a refund if I cannot attend the race after registering?
There are no refunds.

If I registered for one race, can I switch to the other?
We try to accommodate all requests to switch races, but due to space limitations this cannot be automatically guaranteed. See “Switch Policy” on the Race Info/Registration/Fee Schedule page of this website for the procedure, fee and deadline for requesting a switch to another race.

Can I transfer my bib/registration?

Will the marathon or half marathon course close?
Yes, runners who cannot complete the course distance in 5 1/2 hours.

Is there a clock at the halfway point?
Yes. There will be a timing clock at the halfway point of the marathon. There will be a clock at the halfway point of the marathon.

Will my name and results be posted to public use?
Yes, results are posted online after the event.

Will my family and friends be able to track my progress?
Yes, race management will provide live tracking and online result notifications.
