Can the Yonkers Marathon be used to qualify for the Boston Marathon?
Is there a time limit for the Yonkers Marathon and Half Marathon?
Yes. There is a 5 1/2 hour time limit. Both races start at 8:00 a.m. and the course will close at 1:30 p.m. Registrants must be capable of completing the full distance within the event time requirement of 5 ½ hours (or approximately a 13:00 minute per mile pace). Participants traveling slower than a 13:00 minute per mile pace will not be guaranteed Aid Station or Medical support once the 5 1/2 hour time limit has been reached. Participants still out on the course will be asked to move onto the sidewalk as police and course marshal support will end. Participant chip or net times greater than 6 hours will not be listed in the official results.
Are there any age limits to enter the race?
Yes. You must be at least 13 years of age (on race day) to register for the Yonkers Half Marathon and at least 16 years of age (on race day) to register for the marathon.
Are there Pace Teams?
Yes, the Yonkers Pace Team will be available in the marathon to help you achieve a PR, qualify for the Boston Marathon or other races, finish your first marathon, or just help you enjoy your run.
Are results and awards determined by gun or chip time?
Your overall place and awards are determined by gun time. Your net time (chip time) will be included for your personal knowledge and also can be used for qualifying for other races as applicable.
Are there hotels within walking distance of the finish line?
No. The Hotel Regency YONKERS is within 5 1/2 miles distance of the finish line and the buses to the start. A special rate is available for race participants and families.
Is there a race expo?
Yes. The expo takes place on Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 12 p.m. to 3 PM at the Yonkers Van Der Donck Park in downtown Yonkers. Our expo exhibitors will include retail vendors, running and health-related organizations, running clubs and other organizations of interest to our participants.
Is there day-of-race packet pick up?
Yes , we will have race day packet pickup from 6 AM until 7: 30 AM . All race packets must be picked up on Friday October 21 11 AM to 4 PM and Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Yonkers Library from 10 am to 4 p.m. You may have someone else pick up your packet for you. They must have a copy of your photo ID and a note giving permission for another individual to pick up your packet.
When is the last day I can register for the race?
All races sell out quickly. Register early. There will be no wait list.
Can I wear headphones?
No, the use of headphones during the race is strongly discouraged. The course is open and used by other runners, walkers, cyclists and, of course, vehicles, making it important that each participant be aware of his or her surroundings.
What drink and nutritional supplement will be available on the course?
Water will be provided at each water stop and Gatorade will be distributed at two locations on the marathon course.
What if I need to drop out during the race?
Medical volunteers on bikes will monitor the course. A sag vehicle will be available by radio to pick up any participants who cannot finish. If you need to drop out, notify a race medical bicyclist, a water stop captain or a road marshal. They will contact our sag vehicle for transport. It may take up to a half an hour to get picked up. Please remain at the location that was called in for pick up. If you cannot finish due to a medical emergency, inform a race medical bicyclist immediately: he or she will be able to triage your level of medical need. You can also notify volunteers at the water stops or a road marshal along the course or ask a fellow participant to notify the next water stop of your emergency and 911 will be called for you.
Is there medical help available on the course?
Yes. Medically-trained bikers will patrol the course and will be able to triage any medical needs. There will be EMTs stationed along the course and there is an ambulance following the race. There are amateur radio operators at every water stop who can relay messages to the finish area and all water stop captains, race medical bicyclists and road marshals have cell phones available to call 911 if a medical emergency occurs on the course.
Are there portable toilets on the course?
Yes. There is a portable toilet at 2 water stops after mile 4 of the marathon.
Is there a place for me to check extra clothing or baggage?
Yes. Participants can check a bag at the start of each race, which will be transported to the finish area. If you plan to check a bag, a clear plastic bag must be used. Any other type of bag or backpack will not be accepted – no exceptions. Please make sure that your bib number, name and a contact number is visible on the bag. Do not check bags containing valuables or breakable items. The race is not responsible for loss or damage.
Can I run with a running stroller, skates or my dog?
Can I get a refund if I cannot attend the race after registering?
There are no refunds.
If I registered for one race, can I switch to the other?
We try to accommodate all requests to switch races, but due to space limitations this cannot be automatically guaranteed. See “Switch Policy” on the Race Info/Registration/Fee Schedule page of this website for the procedure, fee and deadline for requesting a switch to another race.
Can I transfer my bib/registration?
Yes you may. Please see Transfer Policy on the Race Info/Registration/Fee Schedule page of this website for the procedures, fee and deadline for switching bibs.
Can I walk the marathon or half marathon?
We welcome walkers who can complete the course in 5 1/2 hours.
Will the miles be marked?
Yes. Mile markers will be at every mile of the marathon. There will be a clock at the halfway point of the marathon.
Will the roads be closed to traffic?
No, it is an open road race.
Will the bike paths be closed to public use?
Will my family and friends be able to track my progress?
Yes, athlete tracking will be available on race day.
